Superintendent's Message

Welcome to Wilsona School District!  I am proud to serve as the Superintendent of this wonderful district!  I began my tenure with the district on July 1, 2018, following the retirement of Teri Grey, who served this district as a teacher, principal, district administrator, and superintendent for over 30 years.

Wilsona School District has a total enrollment of approximately 1,250 students.  Our district encompasses about 100 square miles, and we transport 98% of our students to and from school every day.  The board approved the purchase of an electric bus last spring, the first of its kind in the Antelope Valley.

We are very proud that we went out for a bond in November 2018, Measure WE, which passed at almost 70% voter approval.  On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank everyone in the community who supported this bond effort.  We plan to use the money for safety improvements and some much-needed modernization.

The district is made up of 2 schools, Challenger Middle School and Vista San Gabriel Elementary School.  In addition, the District has the Wilsona Achievement Academy community day school.  Vista San Gabriel Elementary serves about 700 students in grades TK-4.  Challenger Middle School serves approximately 550 students in grades 5-8.  The Wilsona Achievement Academy serves between 10-15 students in the community day school program.

As I drive to Lake Los Angeles every day, I am in awe of the dramatic desert landscape.  The towering buttes create a beautiful backdrop for the haunting beauty of the many Joshua trees which dot our landscape.  Each one is unique, a testament to resilience and rejuvenation, blooming and growing, surviving and thriving.  I feel privileged to come to work every day in this beautiful setting, with wonderful students, teachers, support staff, families, and our Board of Trustees.  Each employee brings their own unique talents and qualities to the district, supporting our students to reach their potential and have options for their future.

I have been in education for 32 years, beginning as an instructional aide while working on my college degree.  During my career, I have held a number of various positions in elementary and secondary education, as I worked my way through the district levels, including teacher, program specialist, vice principal, principal, director of curriculum and instruction, assistant superintendent and superintendent.  I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from California State University in Bakersfield.  I am currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership from Brandman University, planning to graduate in May 2020.

My husband and I have four children and six grandchildren.  My husband is a mechanic for the sheriff’s department and volunteers his time with Search and Rescue.  In our spare time, we enjoy traveling and outdoor activities.

I want to thank you for visiting the Wilsona School District website.  I look forward to meeting you and hearing about how our district can meet the needs of our students and the community!
